Whiplash Treatment in Clermont, FL

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries after a car accident, even in a low-speed crash. At Taylor-Made Health & Wellness in Clermont, Dr. JP Silvera, DC, sees car accident patients the same day, checks for whiplash and related injuries, and builds a treatment plan around your recovery.

What is whiplash?

Whiplash is a neck injury caused by a fast back-and-forth movement of the head, like the jolt of a rear-end collision. That motion can strain or sprain the muscles, ligaments and joints of the neck and upper back.

Symptoms can show up hours or days later

Many people feel fine right after a crash. Adrenaline can mask pain, and whiplash symptoms often appear a day or more later. Common symptoms include:

  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Headaches that start at the base of the skull
  • Pain or tightness between the shoulder blades
  • Less range of motion when you turn your head
  • Pain, tingling or numbness that spreads into the shoulders or arms
  • Trouble sleeping because of discomfort

What happens at your exam

Your first visit includes a detailed history of the accident and an orthopedic and neurological exam. Dr. Silvera checks your range of motion, muscle tenderness, reflexes and strength, and documents your condition. If you need imaging or care from another provider, we refer you. We do not take X-rays or MRIs in our office.

How whiplash treatment works

Treatment is based on your exam and may include chiropractic adjustments, physiotherapy, therapeutic exercises and home care instructions. We track your progress at each visit and adjust your plan as you improve.

Florida’s 14-day rule for PIP

Florida law requires you to get medical care within 14 days of a car accident to use your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits. Don’t wait for the pain to get worse. We bill your PIP insurance directly, and we’ll explain any balance before your care starts.

Working with your attorney

If you have a personal injury attorney, we work with them and accept Letters of Protection (LOPs). With a letter of protection (LOP), your attorney agrees that your medical bills will be paid from your case settlement.

Whiplash FAQs

How soon should I be seen after a car accident?
As soon as possible, and within 14 days to protect your PIP benefits. We offer same-day exams.

I don’t have pain yet. Should I still get checked?
Yes. Whiplash symptoms often appear a day or more after the crash. An exam soon after the accident checks for injury and documents your condition.

What should I bring to my first visit?
A photo ID, your auto insurance claim number, your adjuster’s name and phone number, your health insurance card, and your attorney’s information if you have one. You can fill out our intake forms ahead of time.
